It's on the internet so it must be true, right?
If you’re a frequent Facebook user, you’ve probably seen posts or pages with complaints that the service is going to turn from free usage to a subscription. Is this true? Will Facebook start charging for usage?
No! No! No!
Facebook’s own help page at https://www.facebook.com/help/?faq=133348616740027#Will-Facebook-ever-charge-for-service? specifically states that Facebook will always be a free service for everyone. There is your answer. No need to “Like” or reply to these posts in the future. Issue resolved. Case closed.
So, why do these posts keep coming up? There are a couple reasons for these posts that have risen to the surface. First, there are individuals that simply wish to create a hoax and want as many people to hop on the bandwagon as possible. Second, there are those with malicious intent that seek to infect your system with spyware. Snopes indicated this fact from their article here:
“The protest page was a trap for the unwary; clicking on certain elements of it initiated a script that hijacked users' computers. Some of those who did venture a click had their computers taken over by a series of highly objectionable images while malware simultaneously attempted to install itself onto their computers.”
There you have it. Feel free to always use Snopes for any email forwards, Facebook ‘causes’, and other possible hoaxes on the Internet or in the real world.
